Why do we even need a religion and The Quran?

When we pause to reflect on the incredible universe around us—the countless atoms that make up the stars, the billions of stars filling the galaxies, and the trillions of galaxies that make up this vast universe—we’re reminded of one undeniable truth: everything was created by Allah (SWT). He is The One and Only Creator, Sustainer, and Lord. We know this, just as we know that Prophet Muhammad (SAW) is His Final Messenger, the Seal of the Prophets, and our Role Model for how to live a more meaningful life.

But, beyond these fundamental truths, we must ask ourselves: why do we need religion? Why is it so vital to our lives? And, among all the belief systems in the world, why is Islam the only one that fulfills our needs in the ways that it does?

Imagine a world where there were no traffic rules. Cars would speed, swerve, and collide, leading to chaos and disaster. The same is true for our lives! Without guidance, there would be confusion, conflict and uncertainty. Religion provides us with a framework—a set of rules and principles to help us live with purpose, order, and harmony.

But some may wonder: why take guidance from religion when we can make our own rules? The truth is, human ethics and morals vary widely from person to person. What one person believes is right, another may think it is wrong. Without a universal standard, how can we agree on what’s best?

The idea of following the majority also falls short. History has shown us that the majority can be mistaken—like the time when most people believed the Earth was flat. Allah (SWT) reminds us of this in The Quran when He says, “O Prophet! If you were to obey most of those on earth, they would lead you away from Allah’s Way. They follow nothing but assumptions and do nothing but lie (The Clear Quran®, 6:116).”

Our limited perspectives cannot provide guidance that works for everyone, for all times. Just as a car’s manufacturer knows what is best for the vehicle, Allah (SWT) knows what’s best for us because He is our Creator. He gave us the instruction manual for life: The Quran. Allah (SWT) says, “Fighting has been made obligatory upon you believers, though you dislike it. Perhaps you dislike something which is good for you and like something which is bad for you. Allah knows and you do not know (The Clear Quran®, 2:216).”

This is why we need religion: to guide us with wisdom that goes beyond time, culture, and personal biases. Without it, we’d be lost.

Religion introduces us to our Creator, The One who shaped us perfectly and provides for us every day. Think about it: Allah (SWT) created us in such a balanced way that we don’t struggle to stand, walk, or even breathe. How can we live without acknowledging Him? Through Islam, we learn who Allah (SWT) is. In The Quran it is mentioned, “O humanity! Worship your Lord, who created you and those before you, so that you may become mindful of Him (The Clear Quran®, 2:21).”

Religion also gives us a purpose. In Islam, our purpose is clear: to worship Allah (SWT). He says, “I did not create jinn and humans except to worship Me (The Clear Quran®, 51:56).”

Without purpose, life feels empty. Even the wealthiest people often feel unfulfilled, leading to despair. Islam provides that purpose, giving us a reason to strive, to contribute, and to find peace. It aligns with our souls with our actions, helping us navigate life’s challenges with hope and meaning.

And when life gets tough — and it inevitably does, at times — Islam is a source of comfort and strength. Allah (SWT) reminds us, “[...] those who believe and whose hearts find comfort in the remembrance of Allah. Surely in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find comfort (The Clear Quran®, 13:28).”

By giving us peace of mind, Islam improves our mental and physical well-being, helping us live healthier, more fulfilling lives.

Not all religions are the same. Islam is the only religion that remains pure and unaltered, protected by Allah (SWT) Himself. “It is certainly We who have revealed the Reminder, and it is certainly We who will preserve it (The Clear Quran®, 15:9).”

Unlike other scriptures, which have been changed over time, The Quran remains as it was revealed—unchanged and eternal. This alone sets Islam apart as the true religion. Furthermore, all Prophets, from Adam (as) to Muhammad (SAW), taught the same essential message: to worship Allah (SWT) alone. Islam continues that message, making it the final and complete way of life for all humanity. Allah (SWT) says, “Certainly, Allah’s only Way is Islam. Those were given the Scripture did not dispute among themselves out of mutual envy until knowledge came to them. Whoever denies Allah’s signs, then surely Allah is swift in reckoning (The Clear Quran®, 3:19).”

At the heart of Islam is The Quran, a divine miracle that continues to guide billions of people. But it’s not enough to keep this guidance to ourselves. It’s our duty to share it with the world. When we distribute The Quran, we’re giving people the chance to connect with Allah (SWT), and discover the truth for themselves. Allah (SWT) reminds us of the immense reward for spreading His message, “The example of those who spend their wealth in the cause of Allah is that of a grain that sprouts into seven ears, each bearing one hundred gains. And Allah multiples the reward even more to whoever He wills. For Allah is All-Bountiful, All-Knowing (The Clear Quran®, 2:261).”

By supporting Quran distribution, we share the light of Islam to those who need hope and guidance. Imagine the difference you could make—touching lives, inspiring hearts, and creating lasting change, one soul at a time.
