About the Translation

About the Translator
Dr. Mustafa Khattab is a Canadian-Egyptian authority on interpreting the Quran. He was a member of the first team that translated the Ramadan night prayers (Tarawî) live from the Sacred Mosque in Mecca and the Prophet’s Mosque in Medina (2002-2005). Dr. Khattab memorized the entire Quran at a young age, and later obtained a professional ijâzah in the Ḥafá¹£ style of recitation with a chain of narrators going all the way to Prophet Muhammad ï·º. He received his Ph.D., M.A., and B.A. in Islamic Studies in English with Honours from Al-Azhar University’s Faculty of Languages & Translation. He lectured on Islam at Clemson University (OLLI Program, 2009-2010), held the position of Lecturer at Al-Azhar University for over a decade starting in 2003, and served as the Muslim Chaplain at Brock University (2014-2016) and UTM (2019-2021). He is a member of the Canadian Council of Imams and a Fulbright Interfaith Scholar. He has served as an Imam in the U.S.A. and Canada since 2007 and is the translator of The Clear Quran (2015), the author of The Clear Quran® for Kids (2020), The Clear Quran® Dictionary (2021), Shukran (an illustrated story for children, 2020), The Nation of Islam (2011), and Outfoxing Fox News (2017), and contributor to the Encyclopedia of Muslim American History (2010).

A Great English Translation
I have several English translations of the Holy Quran by several accomplished and knowledgeable scholars, this one is by far the best in my humble opinion. The language is contemporary which makes it easier to understand and grasp. I have distributed several of them to my friends. This is the translation that is also currently being distributed at the Marion County Sheriff's Office (Indianapolis) Jail to its inmates and other interested persons. The best English translation of the Holy Quran for people learning about Islam.

The Best Available English Translation of The meaning of Quran
Of all the available English translations to the Holy Quran, this one seems to be the clearer and most understood using a modern easy to understand language. We distributed hundreds of copies to Muslim converts. I highly recommend to those who only speak English and cannot read Arabic.

A Long Overdue Engish Translation of the Qur'an
I have been involved as a Muslim speaker, teachers and writer on Islam for more than 50 years. Like many others, I always hoped for a translation of the meaning of the Qur'an that combines clarity, accuracy, understanding of the historical background of many Qur'anic verses, especially the "occasion of revelation", the textual context of a given verse and its connection with other verses in the Qur'an about the same topic. In addition, better understanding of the Qur'an requires knowledge of the authentic Sunnah or teachings of Prophet Muhammad [peace be upon him] and the overall message and teachings of Islam. I always wondered how could all these ideal conditions be combined and by whom? It sounded like a dream. The Clear Qur'an translated by Dr. Mostafa Khattab, a qualified graduate of the famous Al-Azhar University came the closest to my longstanding dream. I hope to Allah to extend my life to rewrite my modest works on Islam using this translation with a minimum, hopefully rare, minor identifiable editing. Meanwhile, I pray to Allah, the Merciful to bless and reward Dr. Khattab and his loved ones, including me!
