The Role of opposition in Islam

A case Study of The Life of " Umar Ibm al-Khattab by Assad Nimer Busool, Ph. D.

Opposition in early Islam differs from the oposition in the modern democratic and dictatorship of the world. Early Islamic opposition had no ambition of toppling the ruler and taking his place;

rather, its function was advising and directing the ruler to improve a social situation or to remove a wrong done to a group of people or individual. The moment the wrong was corrected, the opposition and the ruler both became happy and thanked Allah for His help and divine guidance.

The argument or the debate ended with the correction of the correction of the situation and the satisfaction of every one in the community, and both sides felt as brothers in faith and left each other without any grudges against each other.
