The Scotch-Irish poet and essayist John Yehya En-Nesr Parkinson (1874-1918) was born in Kilwinning, Ayrshire, Scotland. He converted to Islam around 1900 and was able to remain in frequent contact with other Muslims in Liverpool and Woking even while working and living in Scotland. His contact with the Liverpool Muslim Institute between 1901 and 1908 enabled him to establish a reputation as a poet and essayist due to his works published in British and Muslim periodicals.
