Review:
This bilingual book explores different career choices for little ones. I love that her mother is the affirming voice for her as she discusses these amazing possibilities. I also love that there are Spanish words of love that are included in the English text. the illustrations are so cute and colour tones are beautiful. The mother is shown in hijab but the grandmother isn’t and I assume this is to represent the multi-faith family. The text seems to be a bit lengthy for a picture book. With all the book submissions for the awards this year, I find this to be a common thread in picture books and I don’t know why. Are Muslim publishers and authors following a different standard of criteria when it comes to PB word count. I am not sure. I don’t speak Spanish so I can’t speak to the quality of that part of the book. Also makes me wonder why some Arabic words are translated in the English text, like ‘God willing’, but some aren’t such as ‘Asalam Alaikum.’
