For a translation to do justice to the Quran and capture its elegance and vigor, it has to be accurate, smooth, eloquent, and accessible. Unlike most popular translations, The Clear Quran masterfully passes on all counts.
ABOUT THE TRANSLATION
Thousands of hours have been put into this work over the last few years to guarantee accuracy, clarity, eloquence, and flow. To achieve accuracy, the translator has made use of the greatest and most celebrated works of old and modern tafsir (Quran commentaries), and shared the work with several Imams in North America for feedback and insight. For clarity, every effort has been made to select easy to understand words and phrases that reflect the beauty, flow, and power of the original text. Along with informative footnotes and surah (chapter) introductions, verses have been grouped and titled based on their themes for a better understanding of the chapters, their main concepts, and internal coherence. Thanks to our dedicated team of scholars, editors, and proofreaders, we believe that what you are holding in your hands now is the finest translation of the Final Revelation.
This translation has been officially approved by Al-Azhar (the most prestigious school of Islamic knowledge in the world) and endorsed by ISNA and the Canadian Council of Imams.
ABOUT THE TRANSLATOR
Dr. Mustafa Khattab is a Canadian-Egyptian authority on interpreting the Quran. He was a member of the first team that translated the Ramadan night prayers (Tarawîḥ) live from the Sacred Mosque in Mecca and the Prophet’s Mosque in Medina (2002-2005). Dr. Khattab memorized the entire Quran at a young age, and later obtained a professional ijâzah in the Ḥafṣ style of recitation with a chain of narrators going all the way to Prophet Muḥammad (S). He received his Ph.D., M.A., and B.A. in Islamic Studies in English with Honors from Al-Azhar University’s Faculty of Languages & Translation. He lectured on Islam at Clemson University (OLLI Program, 2009-2010), held the position of a lecturer at Al-Azhar University for over a decade starting in 2003, and served as the Muslim Chaplain at Brock University (2014-2016). He is a member of the Canadian Council of Imams and a Fulbright Interfaith Scholar. He has served as an Imam in the U.S.A. and Canada since 2007 and is the author of The Nation of Islam (2011) and Outfoxing Fox News (2017), and a contributor to the Encyclopedia of Muslim American History (2010). His forthcoming works include: Qamus-ul-Quran (The Dictionary of Quranic Vocabulary), The Illustrated Clear Quran for Kids, and Shukran, the Grateful Young Man.
As an English reader who can only speak a little Arabic, finding an English Quran that flows is very hard since English and Arabic are very different languages. For what flows in Arabic might not be captured in an English Quran. You can tell the team behind this translation of the Quran spent a long time making this an immersive experience for English readers, every Surah I can almost imagine the entire scenarios playing out before my eyes. I’ve never had that luxury with any other translation I’ve read. This Quran would be especially good for English readers who may not be Muslim but are interested in the Quran as it uses the word ‘God’ instead of ‘Allah’ and as we all know by now some non-Muslims and people of the book believe that we believe in a separate God to the Jews and Christians, so having a simple English word for the Almighty may be that bridge for the English speaking non-Muslim or newly reverted Muslim to find the comfort and some familiarity with God in the Quran. All I can say is positive things about this translation of the Quran and may God reward all of the people involved in translating this Quran and even those who distribute it! This has been a review I finally have passion in writing since this Quran is the best I’ve come across so far! Peace be upon you all and everyone in the world.
I can read the Quran in Arabic since I'm a kid but I never really quite understood the meaning of it since my first language is English/French. I liked the introduction of this translated version and the last pages are for notes and that is amazing. I'm happy I made this purchase it made me gain knowledge & just made me realize how lucky I am to be born a Muslim. Al-hamdulillah. May Allah grant us all Jannah x
I'm a non-muslim who loves studying all world religions. I've read the Quran in the past, but have also read that one should read multiple translations to get a better sense of what the original intended. After researching for a while, the Clear Quran seemed to be the best option to buy. When it arrived I was very happy with the care with which it was packed. It arrived without any blemishes. The binding is beautiful and I'm beyond thrilled at the footnotes at the bottom of every page. I've purchased the clear quran on kindle and it's not the same clicking a footnote, reading, then going back to the page you're reading. Very pleased with my purchase.
I will preface my review by stating that I am not a Muslim, but I have the utmost respect for Islam and the Holy Quran. I often seek spiritual guidance in the suras of the Holy Quran. I unfortunatly do not understand Arabic, so I require a translation. Many other versions I have read are often difficult to comprehend due to some concepts being difficult to translate from Arabic. I often have to read the same sura in as many versions possible in 3 different languages to attempt to fully comprehend what is being said. This translation is as the name implies.....clear. After reading a few verses of this translation, I can tell the amount of work that was put into this project. It allows me to keep reading and keep learning. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
